Boston to Provincetown | September 17, 2011 | Photos by Brett Terrien
This year’s Harbor to the Bay ride is well on it’s way to raising $400,000 by November 15. And 100 percent of every dollar raised goes to charity. This year’s September 17 ride started at the crack of dawn with a team of riders at Boston’s Trinity Church, picked up a pack of riders at the Sagamore Bridge, and finished well after sun-down at Provincetown’s Boatslip. Enthusiastic volunteers manned pit stops every fifteen miles along the 125-mile long route. Beneficiaries of the event include Fenway Health Center, AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Community Research Initiative (CRI), and AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts (AAC). There is definitely still room to help this 9th annual tradition reach its goal. Visit harbortothebay.org to see how you can help. -

Close to 400 attendees gathered on a perfect summer day to mix, mingle, and bid at Comedianne Kate Clinton’s rousing live auction. Auction items included an African Safari and the opportunity to have your name appear in an upcoming Jodi Picoult novel. Picoult herself was awarded the GLAD Community Award for Sing Me Home, a nuanced tale of the joys and challenges of being an LGBT family. Picoult’s eldest son, Kyle, came out to her while she was writing the novel. “His coming out really did change for me how I approached the book because it wasn’t just a theoretical journey anymore,” said Picoult. “It really is a mom’s mission. How do I make the world a better place so that when Kyle’s ready to get married and have his kids, he doesn’t have to jump through hoops in order to do it?” Over $100,000 was raised at the event. -
